In the past few weeks, we've also got several academic activities around China. Here you find a summary to them.
EPFL Vice President Visit to China
Philippe Gillet, Vice President of Academics of EPFL led a delegation to China in January on the occasion of the academic conference jointly hosted by the EPFL-based International Risk Governance Council and Tsinghua University . During his stay in Beijing, Professor Gillet visited EPFL’s partner universities in Beijing, including Tsinghua University, Peking University, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics BUAA and Chinese Academy of Sciences CAS and renewed exchange agreements with the partners. The meetings have led to concrete results, including a new summer school initiative between EPFL and BUAA, and a high level delegation visit from CAS to EPFL, both in the course of the year 2013.
Professor Gillet also hosted an EPFL alumni night at Swissotel Beijing together with over 20 EPFL graduates currently reside in China, during which he presented the recent development of EPFL.
St. Gallen Symposium Beijing Reception
The 4th Reception of the St. Gallen Symposium in Beijing was held on March 27th at the Swiss Residence in China. The reception is a pre-event for the 43rd St. Gallen Symposium which will take place in the city of St. Gallen in May. Business leaders, young entrepreneurs and promising students will be invited to join a panel discussion on the topic “Rewarding Courage—the future of Chinese innovation”. Panelists this year included Mr. Roland DECORVET, CEO of Nestle China, Professor YAO Yang, Dean of National School of Development at Peking University, Dr. Geoffrey RIDDELL, member of the Group Executive Committee and Chairman of APMEA region at Zurich Insurance Group and Mr. TAN Yinglan, venture partner at Sequoia Capital (India) Singapore Ltd. The discussion was moderated by Mr. James CHAU, News Anchor at CCTV News. More than 40 business leaders and 30 master and phd students from top universities in China attended the event.
Swiss Participation at Education Exhibitions in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia and Shenyang, China
The Embassy of Switzerland participated at the China International Education Exhibit in Shenyang (March 12th) and at the International Education Exhibition Mongolia in Ulaanbaatar, the biggest education fair held in Mongolia (23 th / 24th March). The Swiss presence attracted huge attention, with over 100 students listening to Mr. Conradin Pfaff’s presentation of the Swiss Higher Education System in Ulaanbaatar. Besides improving the visibility of Switzerland in North China and Mongolia, the event in Ulaanbaatar also allowed the Swiss Science and Education Section in Beijing to gain important insights into the Ministry of Education of Mongolia, which has undergone reorganization after the government transition in 2012.
